Duties and responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Head of Unit, the NGO Coordinator will support the NGO/CSO participation in Bank’s activities, especially those related to the promotion of sustainable development within Africa.



The incumbent will have the specific Duties and Responsibilities:

* Supporting the development of strategies and programming regarding the engagement of civil society;
* Ensuring strategic and focused collaboration with civil society organizations and other relevant non-state actors;
* Evaluating the effectiveness of consultative mechanisms and collaborative partnerships, and up-date best practice guidelines and other instruments;
* Developing innovative approaches towards civil society partners and collaboration of RMCs with civil society;
* Acting as a catalyst to foster relationships between civil society and other relevant non-state actors with Bank staff, Resident Missions, and multilateral and bilateral partners for successful and transparent Bank policies and programs;
* Taking the lead in the definition of an overall strategy and policy regarding civil society and other relevant non-state actors;
* Serving as the primary interface in the Bank with CSOs and performing a liaison function at all times, including with regional and international institutions;
* Supporting and facilitating the participation of civil society in Bank’s activities in RMCs by assisting in the identification, formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and initiatives related to achieving the Bank’s overall strategy in RMCs;
* Collecting, analyzing and disseminating information on CSO activities;
* Promoting contacts, collaboration and agreements between CSOs, RMCs and the Bank with a view to strengthening Bank-CSO engagement;
* Promoting learning from action, knowledge enhancement and building capacity.

Selection Criteria

Including desirable skills, knowledge and experience

* At least a master’s degree in disciplines related to social development (Economics, Social science, Statistics, etc.).
* At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a relevant field at international level, in particular experience with civil society organizations and private sector associations. Demonstrated expertise in policy formulation, programme management and coordination.
* Good knowledge of NGO activities, and advocacy skills.
* Proven experience in project and policy work and familiarity with related cross-cutting dimensions particularly environment, poverty reduction, population, and CSO/Participation ;
* Competence in the use of standard software application; and
* Ability to communicate and write effectively in English or French.
