The National Employment training scheme (NETS) is a special programme specifically designed to tackle unemployment in Nigeria. The programme is in partnership with the Federal Government and leading firms in the telecommunications, banking and oil and gas sectors. Organizations in the public and private sectors have also partnered with NETS.
The objective of the programme is to train a select number of participants free of charge and place them in jobs upon completion of the programme.
This programme is in partnership with the National Directorate of Employment INDE) – the federal government agency in charge of job creation in Nigeria.
Interested participants are expected to apply and sit for a qualifying examination. Application is open to all Nigerians and the training is free of charge.
Objectives
The objectives of the National Employment Training Scheme include but are not limited to the following:
Creating competent local content for all sectors of the Nigerian economy;
Reduce youths restiveness through the provision of functional skill sets acquired during training and facilitating the placement into firms after training;
Affording Nigerians the same world class training obtainable anywhere in the world at no cost to the beneficiaries;
Improving technological competence of Nigerians through the acquisition of skills that are directly required in the workplace;
Creating a pool of qualified Nigerians who have the skills necessary to ‘hit the ground running’ upon employment;
Reduce the overheads incurred in training new intakes by companies thereby encouraging companies to employ more Nigerian school leavers;
Provide employment for Nigerians thereby reducing unemployment - a key Millennium Development Goal and critical in the present administrations 7 point agenda.

Increased stability in the business climate thereby promoting wealth creation.
Who Qualifies
Anyone with a minimum of Senior School Certificate can take part in the NETS programme. The table below indicates the qualifications required to study the courses on offer in the programme.

ReplyDeleteIt will be conducted. The NETS entrance examination is online and can be written from any computer connected to the Internet. All registered candidates should log on to the examination page of the NETS website on the 5th of December 2009 between 08:00:00 and 17:00:00 with their unique examination codes.
