UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT: PTDF PROFESSIONAL CHAIR IN GAS ENGINEERING

UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POST OF PTDF PROFESSIONAL CHAIR IN GAS ENGINEERING

Application are invited from suitably qualified candidates from any part of the world for the post of PTDF Professorial Chair in Gas Engineering. The objectives of setting up the Chair are as follows:
• Encourage and develop interdisciplinary teaching and research in gas technology. • Interface between industry, government and the University for cooperation in research.
• Develop sound gas engineering programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Contribute to developing a Gas policy in Nigeria.

The selected candidate shall establish a multi-disciplinary team that will conduct research leading to the establishment of Centre of Excellence in Gas at the University of Port Harcourt.

Qualification and Experience
Interested applicants must be Professors of Petroleum and/or Gas Engineering or related discipline with at least two (2) years Professorial teaching and research in Petroleum or Gas Engineering and administrative experience in a reputable University.
Candidate(s) must have many publications in form of Books, Monographs, Chapters in Books and Referred Journal Articles published locally and internationally. Salary A competitive salary shall be offered which is equivalent to Professorial rank in Nigerian Universities and a top up, plus other attractive enhancement/incentives. Conditions of Services These are as applicable in Federal public service and as appropriate in the Nigerian University System. In addition, the appointment shall be for a three-year period in the first instance and renewable for another two years based on performance.

2. The selected Candidate shall research on the following areas:
• “Quantification/ characterization of the Gas Resources in Nigeria.”
• “Evaluation of Gas Storage Potentials of Reservoirs in the Niger Delta.”
• “Utilization of Nigerian Gas for the Manufacture of Chemicals.”
3. The selected Candidates shall in addition to research, teach relevant courses in petroleum or Gas Engineering in both undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate shall also organize an annual lecture on gas-related topics and carry out other academic duties as may be assigned by the University. Method of Application 1. Academic vacancy for the position of Petroleum Technology Development Fund [PTDF] professorial chair in petroleum chemistry

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment into the position of Petroleum Technology Development Fund Professorial Chair in Petroleum Chemistry, tenable in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. 1.0 DUTIES 1.1 Develop and teach relevant courses in Petroleum Chemistry as core (compulsory) subject at the undergraduate and graduate levels. 1.2 Deliver an annual Petroleum Technology Development Fund lecture on topical issues in Petroleum Chemistry and Technology.

1.3 Continuously engage in Applied Research in Petroleum Chemistry as well as initiate and lead research in “Development of Catalysts and Processes for Manufacture of Petrochemicals”.

1.4 Establish and strengthen academic leadership in the particular area of Petroleum Chemistry and Petroleum Technology in general.

1.5 Carry out other academic and administrative duties as may be assigned as well as provide as well as provide professional and community services.

2.0 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE 2.1 Candidate must be a Petroleum Chemist or a person appointable to the position of a Professor who can make contributions in areas relevant to Petroleum Technology Development.

2.2 The candidate should have adequate research experience in the research area stated in 1.3 above.

2.3 Possess a Ph.D in any of the following disciplines: (a)-Petroleum Chemistry; (b)- Petroleum Technology; (c)- Chemical Engineering or any relevant field of Chemistry.

2.4 Other Usmanu Danfodiyo University requirements (viz number of Journal publications, extensive research and academic experience, etc) for appointment to the position of a professor shall also apply. At least ten (10) years of teaching, research, and academic experience in a Nigerian University or any recognized University outside Nigeria.

2.5 The prospective Professor must be a person with good and proven interpersonal relations that would enable the department benefit from facilities available to the Chair.

3.0 CONDITION OF SERVICE AND SALARY The appointment is for a professorial position in the University, endowed by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.

3.1 Salary: is for a professorial rank in Nigerian Universities plus very attractive enhancement/incentives.

3.2 Other conditions governing the appointment of staff in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto shall also apply.

3.3 The appointment shall be for a period of three (3) years in the first instance and renewable for another two (2) years based on performance.

Not more than 30 years for MSc and 40years for PhD
Must be Nigerians
Must have a credit in English Language in SSCE or required pass mark in TOEFL or
IELTS.

The Local Scholarship Scheme (LSS) is expected to derive direct and maximum benefit from the Universities Upgrade and Endowment Programmes of the Fund. The Scheme is designed to encourage outstanding students in Nigeria to pursue Programmes relevant to the development of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria
