Federal Ministry of Health vacancy annoucement for the post of director general/ Chief Executive Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba Lagos.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified nigerian candidates from within and outside nigeria for the post director-general/ chief executive of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR)

The institute is a parastatal of the federal ministry of health. Its mandate is to undertake basic, applied and operational research in the biomedical sciences with the aim of advancing the frontiers of knowledge in medicine, producing better understanding of the diseases prevalent in the country and improving their control.

Job Qualification and experience:

the position is open to clinical & bio-medical scientists of high national and international repute suitable candidates must:

- possess postgraduate academic qualification as well as postgraduate profesional qualification where appropriate
- provide evidence of distinguished and continuing contribution to medical knowledge through research and publications.
- have leadership experience in research and management at university or research institute level
duties:
the director-general is the chief executive of the institute. He is responsible for the execution of the mandate of the institute and for the smooth running of its day-to-day affairs. As a scientist, he is to provide research leadership and as managerhe is expected to provide and environment congenial for high level scientific pursuit.

Condidtions of service

the conditions of service are the same as those applicable to direct-general/chief executive in charge of federal governement parastatals.

Jobs Objectives

To align HR Strategies and practices with FIRS business strategies on a continual basis.

Job Main Role of HR

To deliver quality services internally so that FIRS can have “high performing and aligned employees”. These roles should be able to deliver wider business objective of building relationship/coalitions with line managers and other stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities
To build and sustain the human capital needs of FIRS which will enable integration and delivering of the corporate objectives of FIRS both in the short and long term basis.
To develop a highly skilled and motivated work force.
To effectively manage staff records, recruitment, promotion, job evaluation, welfare issues, and payroll administration.
To address staff discipline and grievances issues fairly and efficiently in a timely manner.
To develop, improve and communicate HR policies processes and also monitor adherence in tandem with Servicom Charter.
Build effective succession plans for the growth and stability of FIRS.
To liaise with relevant Departments in staff development and capacity building.
To gradually and systematically build employee capacity that will compliment the ageing workforce via recruitment, head hunting, transfer and secondment.
To properly place staff based on assessment programme that will enable management to identify skills/competency possessed by such officers and carryout organizational design that would determine the required manning levels.
To implement the Integrated HR SAP Programme this would make its processes more efficient.
